I have watched the slides and presentation for this week twice because the first time I missed a few things. That was a lot of information in 4:50min + 4:22min (YouTube) video. My honest opinion with respect to this course is instead of taking it as a course that we have to complete for graduation, if we understand the concepts well and apply critical thinking to daily life it will help us and the benefits are more when we search for jobs. The technology is changing fast; my goal is to become an engineer in Kuwait Petroleum Company. Some of the facts shown in the video are shocking with INDIA and CHINA competing with US in terms of Information Technology and Labor respectively. I totally agree with the part that students are now being prepared to the jobs that don’t exist currently and that signifies the fact that the growth is exponential and if I am not wrong critical thinking is something that helps us to keep up with the pace of the changing technology.

I am looking forward for this much more after listening to the presentation and hopefully I will not forget 50% after a few months like it was mentioned by AAHE in one of the slides.

The video was a collected a few years back if I am not wrong. I would like to ask the class to share any ideas or strategies required to face the future job market?

What is identity crisis?

The identity crisis is when a person is not be able to fit completely into any group and just struggles to find a place where he/she perfectly blends in, this mostly happens in college when students belonging to different ethnicity go to college as freshmen.

Does everyone go through such a crisis about the time one enters college? Did you? Or is this an experience that only racial minorities in predominantly white American colleges undergo?

To frankly answer this question, I think mostly yes because I am from the Middle East(Arab) and when I got to college I really had a hard time getting involved with the students until I found some other students who belonged to the same place as me. This situation happens to most of the minority groups who go to college as freshmen and according to the story of Raya in the textbook, she was struck between two with no clarity of what and where she belongs to, she cannot call her self a complete Mexican/Puerto Rican because she doesn’t speak good Spanish and she is not completely American looking too. Also she mentions in her story about many people from minority groups having same issues. I personally fee that this happens in white dominated colleges. The best thing to do is to be able to achieve and maintain identity while playing a valuable role in American society. Being proud about heritage and contributing as citizens in a country populated by immigrants and their descendants.
