YOUR SUBJECT MUST BE APPROVED BY ME AHEAD OF TIME. Projects must be a 6-page, 12-point font, double-spaced analysis with standard margins. On the title page include a photo of yourself at the site. Your sources should include at least two primary sources and five secondary sources. I will accept NO late submissions.
These projects are worth 300 points and must include:
Title of Project, Author’s Name and on-site photo, HIST 341-51, and Date.
Include introduction, main body of text, and conclusion in a narrative format (do not include subtitle headings.
BE SURE to PLACE the site into its historical context.
Answer why this site should be important to North Carolinians.
Provide a well-researched background history about the site.
Analyze how the history is presented by the site. Does it do a good job? What categories does it take the visitor through? Does the site consider race, gender, class, or community issues regarding its topic in its public presentation? What does the site want to project to the viewer?
Does it gloss over or ignore important parts of the history? What could it do better?
If you choose to, you can include a PowerPoint presentation; turn in only a 5-page paper.
Bibliography or Works Cited: You must use at least two primary sources and five secondary sources. Wikipedia or other such online sources are not acceptable.
Within the text of your paper you MUST use Turabian or Chicago Manual of Style for your footnote citations, or parenthetical reference (MLA) if you are not a history major (THIS MEANS IN-TEXT CITATIONS, TOO). If you are not sure how to do either, there are wonderful web-sources that you can access. Here is one that I recommend: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/ Do not wait until a week before this is due or you will have trouble.
Remember: Plagiarism will get you an automatic F.
