Provide empirical/theoretical support for your responses.  You may use fictitious case studies of children/adolescents/adults to illustrate your viewpoints.
Tyler is a 19 year old, white, male, college student at the Howard University. He is a member of the band and the Save the Earth club. He is from Clarinda, Iowa and both of his parents teach at one of the Clarinda high schools. He is the youngest of three sons. His brothers are currently in graduate school.  The family income is $150, 0000 per year. Sam was having difficulty in his math classes, so he went to the University Counseling Service. On the WAIS-IV, he obtained a Full Scale IQ score of 108 with no significant strengths or weaknesses and scored a 105 on the Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT). Cristina, who is also 19 years old, lives with her mother and 18 month old son in Hyattsville, Maryland. Cristina’s first language is Spanish and she is proud to be a Mexican American. Cristina works 2 jobs in Temple Hills, Maryland (fast food and elder care) and makes $17,500.00 per year. She dropped out of high school when she was pregnant with her son. However, she would like to get her GED and some additional training at the local community college, so she could obtain a better job. She also wonders whether she should join the armed forces in order to have a better life for her and her son. This Counseling Center at the local community college offers career advice and administered the WAIS-IV to Cristina as part of their career assessment battery. Cristina obtained a 108 Full Scale IQ score with no significant strengths and weaknesses and a 100 on the AFQT.

a. Should Tyler and Cristina have been given the same intelligence test (WAIS-IV)? WHY or WHY Not?
b. Should the Index scores have been reported? Why or why not?
c. Did the intelligence test scores provide any valuable information? If so, what?  If not, why not?
d. Could one hypothesize that inter and intra individual factors are inhibiting Cristina from demonstrating her innate ability because part of that ability is allocated to overcoming the “institutional inequalities” that Tyler does not experience?  If so, what are those inter and intra individual factors? Does the residual gap phenomenon play a part in their assessment?
e. What other information do you need in order to determine whether these tests were valid measures of Tyler and Cristina’s, current intellectual functioning?
