First Essay (4  pages) is an objective essay that focuses on the reading of The City Assembled: The Elements of Urban Form Through History, by Spiro Kostof: Chapters 3, 2, and 3.

Second Essay (4 pages) is an objective essay that will focus on the reading  of Mahatma Gandhi: Nonviolent Power in Action, by Dennis Dalton:  Preface, Introduction, and Chapters 1 and 2 of the Gandhi book.    Using examples from one or more of these chapters, the essay should answer the following question:  “What are the possible relationships between ideas [e.g. theories] and action [e.g. practice]?”  Please be sure to make the essay as focused as possible.
