Organization:  Your essay should include the following:Introduction:  An introduction that grabs your audiences attention and provides background information on the issue (show the sides to the argument).  Thesis Statement:  Your introduction should end with an assertive thesis statement that states your opinion on the topic. Note: Your thesis should not contain 1st person singular pronouns like I, me, my.Essay Body (reasons): Your thesis should then be supported by a minimum of three body paragraphs (you may have more).  Each body paragraph needs to provide a supporting argument (typically a reason) for your thesis statement.  Begin each body paragraph with a topicsentence that states the argument to be made in that paragraph.  Then develop the idea stated in the topic sentence through a combination of detailed explanations and examples.  I cannot stress enough the importance of providing details to help your audience see what you are talking about.  Sources:  You should include a minimum of three secondary sources in your essay.Counterargument: Your essay should include at least one counterargument paragraph where you anticipate opposing positions and objections and either accommodate legitimate objections or refute illegitimate objections.  Be careful though.  Too often students present such a good case for the counterargument that they effectively defeat their own argument.Conclusion:  End your essay with a concluding paragraph that briefly restates the main points made in your essay and ends with an expanded thought that keeps your audience thinking after theyve finished reading your essay
