Evaluate the role of an organisations internal capabilities and how these may be structured to attain competitive advantage. 2.Appraise the role and scope of specific business functions and their contribution to an organisations success. 3.Analyse and evaluate the significance of key, cross functional processes essential to the delivery of customer value. You are required to present a written case study that evaluates the way in which the Supply Chain Management process may be used to improve the value of the product or the service to an organisations customers. You are required to explore: the way in which the Supply Chain Management (SCM) process may be used to add value to the product or service delivered by the organisation the way in which the functions explored in the module contribute to the SCM process. The output from this exercise will be a case study that demonstrates your learning from the whole of the module. Supply Chain Management has been chosen as an example of a business process that, if effectively used, offers the potential to integrate separate activities throughout the organisation in order to achieve a higher level of organisational performance. This does not diminish the importance of the separate specialist functions, and the case should explore how these (many of these) operate in the chosen organisation. Please note that you do not have to show your chosen organisation as a paragon of virtue in all these respects. It is acceptable and valid to study an organisation that does not use SCM, or lacks a well-developed specialist function in one area or another. This circumstance gives you the opportunity to evaluate the reality of the organisations circumstances against the theoretical models you have been studying. You might argue that the organisation would perform better if it implemented some of the theoretical approaches, or alternatively you might argue that particular theories are not relevant to your chosen organisation. The focus of this assignment is the application of relevant theory and literature relating to the business functions and supply chain management process. Additional related reading may help your coursework submission. You should: briefly recap on the introduction to your chosen organisation from Coursework 1. introduce the elements of theory that you are using. discuss the ways in which you can see the theoretical principles being applied (or ignored) in the organisation. The assignment should demonstrate your understanding of the concepts, the ability to select and discuss relevant literature and to apply knowledge of functional areas to the overall process. The most important part of this assignment is critical appraisal of the extent to which the current models of good practice in management can be seen to contribute or not to the organisations success. A limit of 4000 words applies to this assignment. It must be word processed. Appendices to not contribute to the word count. The number of words must be indicated on the front cover and include a contents page. The assessment criteria are shown below and should be used as a guide when writing your assessment. In the following section there is further guidance as to what is being sought under each of the headings.
