The Pastoral Epistles consist of some of the most disturbing texts in the canon. Texts such as 1 Timothy 2:8-15 are especially problematic with their seeming justification of blatant misogyny. What do you think were the historical factors that gave rise to such texts and facilitated their inclusion in the canon? What might be the most constructive or liberative way to appropriate such texts in our contexts today? If you prefer, you can respond to the question of how you might on that text in your home congregation.
