You will write an essay answering ONE of these questions from a sociological perspective:

1.    Explain why it is important to highlight both the varied and common features of contemporary Islam. Why should we study Islam both in singular (Islam) and in plural (Islams). Provide ATLEAST two examples.

2.    Explain why it is problematic to oppose Islam and modernity. Provide AT LEAST two concrete examples to illustrate your argument.
