Narrative Therapy with Children
As the therapist to David and his family, write the family a summary letter. Use as many of the clients’ own words as possible to accent new possibilities and emerging narratives. Show each family member any externalized problems that came up during the session, and remind them of all positive outcomes created in and out of session. Identify in the letter each member’s strengths observed throughout the course of therapy. Be sure to draw conclusions discernible only from the therapeutic discussions. Remember, each family member is the expert of his/her life, and you must use their words and opinions, not your own.
