Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival (Links to an external site.) (now in theaters)

I won’t require you to use direct quotes, nor consult other film reviews, but I will award more points for such work. Mostly, I want you to evaluate the film as a work of film. Discuss themes, character arcs, technical elements–whatever seems most compelling to you.

And, yes, you must write about this film. I will not give anyone special permission to review another film. My rationale for choosing this film arises from the film’s concern with language and communication. Also, I think it’s a wonderful, moving, interesting work of art that speaks to existential concerns with which everyone grapples.
