Using the computers, research and write answers for the following:
1) Why did Britain want an Empire?

2) Research the history of ONE colony of the British Empire.

You were given a country to research (e.g. India). Using the computers research and collect detailed information.
Things to research and consider:

– When did the British first arrive?
– What raw materials and good did that country have that the British might have been interested in?
– How did the British treat the people there? Positives and/or negatives?
– Was there any rebellions or times when the colonial people (e.g. Indians) fought back against the British?
– How did the country change under British rule? (e.g. population increased? New towns?)
– When did the colony become INDEPENDENT from Britain?
– What are its connection to Britain today?
